The annual week-long celebration to honor and recognize the more than 2,000 nurses across TMC Health began with an opening ceremony Monday, May 5, that included a procession and presentation by the Southern Arizona Nurse Honor Guard.
Dressed in traditional white uniforms with red and blue capes, the SANHG honored nurses for their dedication and compassionate service. Joy Upshaw, TMC's chief nursing officer spoke at the ceremony.
The celebration continues throughout the week with fun events and festivities, including an awards ceremony. Quarterly awards will be given to nurses who have been recognized by patients, staff and families.
Additionally, TMC Health is proud to announce that 16 of its nurses will be recognized as Fabulous 50 winners, an annual award celebrating 50 outstanding nurses in the Tucson area, at the upcoming Tucson Nurses Week Foundation Gala.
For perspective, there are more than 8,000 registered nurses employed in the Tucson area. Sixteen – or 32% - of the 50 awarded work at TMC Health.
“We are incredibly proud to have 16 Fab 50 winners this year at TMC Health,” Upshaw said. “This recognition is a testament to the unwavering commitment, passion and expertise of our team members. It highlights our dedication to advancing health care and delivering exceptional service to our community.”
Winners were nominated by their peers and members of the community. Nominations were reviewed and selected based on criteria that include role modeling, mentoring, concern for humanity and contributing to the Tucson community.
“Each award is not just a personal achievement, but a reflection of our collective effort to push the boundaries of excellence in health care,” Upshaw said. “We are honored to be recognized and inspired to continue making a positive impact.”
