Benson Hospital proudly dedicated the main lobby atrium of the hospital this week to Ann E. Cook, whose unwavering commitment and contributions have left a lasting impact on our organization and community.
When Benson Hospital opened in 1970 Cook was a Cochise County Health Nurse, a position she held until 1985 when she joined the Benson Hospital team registered nurse. In this capacity, Cook often worked in coordination with the staff at the hospital to provide the community with care. Her hands-on experience providing direct patient care gave her unique insights that would later prove invaluable in her leadership roles. Following her retirement from nursing in 1995, Cook continued her service as a hospital volunteer and board member until 2024. She currently remains on the board and volunteers two days a week, answering phones and greeting patients.
As the former Chair of the Benson Hospital Board of Directors, Ann played a pivotal role in transforming the Benson health care facility into the modern, patient-centered institution it is today. During her tenure from 2005 to 2020, she spearheaded numerous initiatives, including the expansion of our emergency department, the implementation of new medical technologies, and the development of comprehensive community health programs.
Ann's vision extended beyond traditional healthcare delivery. She was instrumental in establishing the Benson Community Health Foundation, which provides financial assistance to underprivileged patients and supports local health education programs. Her advocacy for preventive care and wellness programs has touched countless lives in our community.
Her leadership style, characterized by collaboration and innovation, helped forge strong partnerships with medical professionals, community organizations, and educational institutions. These relationships have enhanced the quality and accessibility of healthcare services in the Benson area.
Ann's passion, leadership, and generosity have shaped so much of what we stand for, and it is only fitting that this beautiful space bears her name—a place of connection, reflection, and inspiration for all who walk through our doors. The Ann E. Cook Atrium will serve as a daily reminder of her dedication to healthcare excellence and community service.
Even in retirement, Ann continues to contribute to healthcare initiatives through mentoring young healthcare professionals and volunteering at local health clinics. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she has touched and the healthcare professionals she has inspired.
Join us in celebrating Ann's incredible legacy as we dedicate this space to a woman who has truly exemplified the meaning of service, leadership, and compassion in healthcare.
